Premier League: Everton win again, Ipswich hold Villa

Everton's Premier League revival under manager David Moyes continued as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park thanks to a late winner from Carlos Alcaraz.
Moyes' side overcame any fatigue from their dramatic draw with Liverpool on Wednesday and were able to profit twice from some poor Palace defending, with striker Beto bagging his second goal in as many games.
The win pushed Everton up two places to 13th in the table and marked Moyes' fourth win in six league games since returning as manager in early January. They are now equal with Palace on 30 points but one spot behind on goal difference.
It was another poor home result for Palace who, despite finding some form in recent months, have still only won two of their league matches at Selhurst Park all season.
Palace were the better side for the opening half hour but a lapse in concentration from a throw-in allowed Alcaraz to run clear down the right wing and play in Beto, who found the bottom corner in the 42nd minute.
The first half was somewhat short on quality but the second was much more open, helped by Palace bringing on their dynamic attacker Eberechi Eze, who pushed his side forward early on.
Palace kept up the pressure after a corner in the 47th minute and defender Marc Guehi was able to cleverly flick the ball over Everton's back line to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who duly scored his 11th league goal of the season.
Yet the Eagles undid their good attacking work by failing to clear the ball late on, which allowed Ashley Young a shot on goal before Alcaraz jumped on the resulting loose ball to score the winner in the 80th minute.
It capped a great few days for Everton and Moyes, who held league leaders and bitter rivals Liverpool to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday in the last Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park before they move to a new stadium next season.
The result was all the more impressive given the veteran manager's squad is beset with injuries and was further depleted by a suspension for midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, who saw red for celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans three days earlier.

Calvin Bassey’s first goal of the season clinched Fulham their first home league win of the year, 2-1 against Nottingham Forest, who slipped to back-to-back away defeats.
Forest striker Chris Wood fired Forest level before the break with his 18th league goal of the campaign after Emile Smith Rowe had headed Fulham into the lead, but Bassey headed the winner just after the hour mark.
Aston Villa's bid for a top-six finish was dealt a blow after they were held 1-1 at Villa Park by 10-man Ipswich.
Ipswich defender Axel Tuanzebe was sent off for his second yellow card after hauling down Jacob Ramsey shortly before half-time.
The visitors then stunned Villa early in the second period when Liam Delap gave them the lead before Ollie Watkins equalised, turning home a rebound after substitute Marcus Rashford’s free-kick had struck the crossbar.
Bournemouth climbed up to fifth in the table = one point behind City – after a 3-1 win at south-coast rivals Southampton.
Dango Ouattara’s first-half header and Ryan Christie’s thumping effort two minutes later put the Cherries in control.
Kamaldeen Sulemana reduced the deficit for the Saints, but the Cherries restored their two-goal lead through Marcus Tavernier’s emphatic finish as the Saints lost for the 20th time in the league this season.
Kevin Schade’s early goal was enough to seal Brentford a 1-0 win at West Ham, who have lost five of their last seven top-flight games.
Schade struck in the fourth minute to earn the Bees a third-straight away win in the league, despite Ireland striker Evan Ferguson coming off the bench to boost the Hammers in the second half.
Omar Marmoush struck a first-half hat-trick as Manchester City beat Newcastle 4-0 to climb back into the Premier League's top four.
Egypt forward Marmoush, signed for £59million from Eintracht Frankfurt last month, scored his first two goals for City in the space of five minutes and added a third before the break as the defending champions clicked into gear at the Etihad Stadium.
James McAtee volleyed home City's fourth from close range as Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back from their midweek home Champions League defeat to Real Madrid with their biggest home league win of the season.
Arsenal climbed to within four points of leaders Liverpool – Arne Slot’s side face Wolves at Anfield on Sunday – thanks to two late goals from substitute Mikel Merino in a 2-0 win at Leicester.
The Foxes, who remain in the bottom three, fought hard to register their first clean sheet in 21 games in all competitions, but Spain midfielder Merino struck in the 81st and 87th minutes.
Gunners teenager Ethan Nwaneri hit the woodwork twice in the second half as Mikel Arteta’s side extended their unbeaten league run to 15 matches.
