After a midweek of Carabao Cup semi-finals, the Premier League returns this weekend and Saturday kicked off with a huge game in what’s left of the title race.

Chelsea lost to Manchester City at lunchtime, as the champions further extended their lead at the summit.

Before that, however, the game week actually got started on the south coast on Friday night as Brighton drew with rivals Crystal Palace.

Newcastle drew with Watford on Saturday afternoon in a big game at the bottom, while Norwich finally ended their losing run in a win over Everton at Carrow Road that earned Rafael Benitez his P45.

In a repeat of Monday night’s FA Cup third-round tie, Aston Villa came from behind to draw with Manchester United after a late debut goal from Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool beat Brentford on Sunday in a fixture that produced one of the games of the season so far earlier in the campaign.

West Ham are back in the top four and yet failed to consolidate their position at home to Leeds, while Sunday’s north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham has been postponed after a request from the depleted Gunners.

In the midweek action, Chelsea’s rearranged game at Brighton ended in a draw before Steven Bergwijn’s late show earned Tottenham a win at Leicester and Manchester United beat Brentford.
