RTE star Ryan Tubridy absent from radio show this week as Baz Ashmawy fills in
Ashmawy confirmed that Tubridy will be absent until next week

RTE star Ryan Tubridy will be missing from his morning radio show this week.

Television personality Baz Ashmawy will be covering the 9am-10am slot on RTE Radio One.

On this morning's programme, Ashmawy confirmed that Tubridy will be absent until next week.

He said: "Welcome to the Ryan Tubridy Show, I'm Bazil Ashmawy and I'm filling in for Tubs. I'll be keeping his seat warm until he gets back next week."

The reason for his absence this week is unknown.

Before Christmas, Tubridy was confirmed as a close contact and was missing from his radio show, with comedian Oliver Callan unexpectedly filling in for the host on December 23.

He told listeners: “You weren’t expecting it but neither was I, I can tell yous that.

“It is the last day of school officially on the Tubridy Show and your headmaster or ringmaster Ryan was looking forward to being here to bring yous all towards the Crimbo.

“Only he joins the tens of thousands of unlucky punters out there who have been pinged as close contacts.”

“That means you don’t come to work so I’m here in his stead and it’s very widely common, you may not have Covid but the HSE send you the message.

“They say ‘Someone who you may or may not know, you are a close contact with that person who has tested positive’.

“So Ryan is now a member of that growing gigantic community who have had their Christmasses upended all of a sudden.”

Ryan later confirmed on his Instagram that he was self isolating for the festive period.

He said: "So, along with half the country, I'll be self-isolating for a few days but there are bigger problems in this mad world!

"Happy Christmas everyone. Peace and love to all. See you on the other side."

The RTE star's most recent post on his Instagram is a New Year's message to his followers.

He said on January 1: "Happy new year everyone. Such a peculiar 2021 but, with a little luck, we’ll march towards the springtime and beyond to a less weird 2022! I saw some green shoots in the garden earlier so it’s begun."
